The Coming Spring
More hand stitching of The Coming Spring Quilt this week. Feels like it might be a beckoning of Spring, or perhaps that is where my mind is at in anticipation. The dark blue to light blue reminds me of melting ice. The tannish brown leaves echoing the woods where I walk my dog Copper.
Loads of leaves cover the path and are no longer the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows of fall. This quilt seems to represent that decay and ending of one cycle as the ice starts to melt (though it is still very much winter in our daily lives).
The backing is a solid mottled pale green and white with delicate leafy fern imprints. The Coming Spring.
I might add some details that resemble ice and snow as it mixes with the watery paths. Part of me really wants to incorporate a bold, saturated, red as well. Anything to do with cycles of the year automatically brings to mind the cycles of womanhood. During these times of separation, I really miss attending the Red Tent with other women each month. Maybe that is why I feel so drawn to include a touch of red in each project I start.
What are you most anticipating for the coming Spring?
