Bat Country

  • You Are Here 406 Clay Avenue (map)

You Are Here announces the opening of “Bat Country,” curated by and Dan Overdorff, on Saturday, August 17 at 6:00 pm at You Are Here, 406 Clay Avenue, Jeannette, PA. The
event is free and open to the public.
In the mythology of many cultures, bats are symbols of the underworld where people live in shadows.
But, conversely, some cultures shed a positive light on bats viewing them as a symbol of good luck: a symbol that something good was about to happen. The bat is certainly a creature that is quite mysterious.
Bat Country uses these creatures of the night as a metaphor. The exhibition features the work of three
artists, Westmoreland artists Nora Thompson and Brian McCall, and Johnny Dismal from the San
Francisco Bay Area. Their individual bodies of work share a worldview that is mysterious, humorous,
askew, and just a bit outrageous. Nora Thompson presents portraits of characters called “The Rots” that
were included in her own first book, Twisted: Tales to Rot Your Brain Vol. 1. Brian McCall will exhibit
both drawings and sculpture, and Johnny Dismal presents drawings and paintings from his world of
“Dismal Things.”
