Wet felting is a method for changing wool and animal fibers into a dense fabric called “felt.” Following the welt felting process, and after a bit of drying, we will dry felt (just a bit) to decorate it and to adhere the design. We do this with special needles that have barbs on them.
Instructor is multimedia artist Mary Ellen Raneri.
This class is suitable for total beginners who have not done any wet felting before.
Participants will learn the basics of wet felting, with step-by-step instructions for laying out wool, wetting, rubbing, rolling and finishing. Some dry felting techniques will also be shown. The piece of felt being demonstrated in the instructions is approximately a 5”x7” piece that will be completed in class. It will make a lovely and unique wall hanging for any room.
