Rethinking Fiber and Fabric

Fabric of all kinds is ever present in our lives, and is also deeply tied to cultural identity, artistic expression, and history. The practice of rethinking, re-envisioning, and redefining fabric is an enduring tradition. Rethinking Fiber and Fabric uses historic examples as a foundation for the contemporary trend of up-cycling and reimagining the potential of fabric and fiber. In cooperation with **Historic Hannastown, the exhibit looks back on the early examples of repurposing items as a way of preserving them while giving them new life and meaning. The exhibit also features six contemporary artists who employ new materials or reuse existing ones to create functional items and ornamental objects that reflect personal as well as cultural history.

Participating artists include Connie Blair, Lauren Henschel, Paul Hajdukiewicz, Mary Raneri, Deb Tustin, and Suzanne Werder

Opening reception for Rethinking Fiber and Fabric will be held on Saturday, May 9 at 6pm.

**Established in 1773, Hanna’s Town served as the first English courts west of the Allegheny Mountains and the first seat of government for Westmoreland County. Historic Hanna’s Town is now a county park administered by the Westmoreland Historical Society. It houses an Education Center with research library, exhibits, and archives.
